GitHub Release and Changelog Alerts

Your application depends on dozens of open source libraries. Each one ships updates on its own schedule. Some follow semver. Some do not. Some announce breaking changes with fanfare. Others slip them into minor versions with a one-line changelog entry. You cannot watch them all, but you cannot afford to miss the important ones.

The last incident started with a dependency update. A library your team uses released a new version with a subtle API change. Your CI pipeline pulled the latest version, tests passed (because the affected code path was not covered), and the change went to production. The bug surfaced 48 hours later as intermittent failures that took another day to trace back to the dependency update.

GitHub watch notifications are overwhelming. If you watch a popular repository, your inbox floods with issue comments, PR reviews, and discussion threads. The actual release notification gets buried under hundreds of other notifications. Starring repos does nothing for notifications. GitHub release RSS feeds exist but require a feed reader that most people abandoned years ago.

Dependabot and Renovate handle automated dependency updates, but they create PRs, which still need human review. The problem is awareness. When a major dependency ships a breaking change, you want to know immediately so you can plan the upgrade, review the migration guide, and allocate engineering time before it becomes an emergency.
