You have the perfect brand name. The problem is someone else owns the .com. They are not using it. The domain points to a parked page with generic ads or a "this domain is for sale" notice with a five-figure asking price. You are not paying $15,000 for a domain that costs $12 to register.

Domains expire. Registrations lapse. Companies shut down. People forget to renew. The domain you want today could become available next month, next quarter, or next year. But you will not know when that happens unless you are checking regularly.

You have tried WHOIS lookup tools to check the expiration date. Some domains show an expiration date, which gives you a target. But many domain owners auto-renew, and even expired domains go through a grace period, a redemption period, and sometimes an auction before becoming publicly available. The process takes weeks after expiration, and the availability window can be brief before another buyer snaps it up.

Backorder services promise to grab the domain for you when it drops, but they charge premiums and there is no guarantee, especially if multiple services are competing for the same domain. You could set one up and still lose to a faster registrar.
